Ford is the second largest producer of cars and trucks in the world ,has stakes in foreign-based automakers, including an interest giving it effective control of Japanese automaker Mazda. The Ford Motor Credit subsidiary is the US's #1 auto financer, and Ford also owns 81% of Hertz. In 1999 Ford purchased Volvo which made it Europe's #2 carmaker, trailing VW.The Ford family owns about 35% of the company's voting power.
